How recruitment works in Finland – especially in international roles

This lecture offers a practical and comprehensive overview of recruitment and job seeking in Finland, with a special focus on international roles and the needs of foreign jobseekers. The session helps participants understand the key stages of the Finnish recruitment process and navigate work related regulations and workplace expectations in Finland.

By the end of the lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Identify effective ways to find job vacancies in Finland, including public portals, company channels, and informal networks.
  • Prepare a strong job application and CV tailored to Finnish employers, and understand how to succeed in a job interview within the Finnish work culture.
  • Understand a foreigner’s right to work in Finland, including residence permits, work based permits, and employment-related legal requirements.
  • Recognize how professional qualifications are assessed and officially recognized by the relevant Finnish authorities.
  • Know their rights and obligations at work, such as employment contracts, working hours, equal treatment, and workplace wellbeing.
  • Gain basic knowledge of working as an entrepreneur in Finland, including business establishment, taxation, and available support services.

This lecture is aimed at international jobseekers and professionals who are planning to work in Finland or apply for roles in international environments. It is also suitable for anyone seeking a practical understanding of the Finnish recruitment process, workplace regulations, and cultural expectations.

Trainer

Vuokko Keränen works as a Development Specialist at the KEHA Centre within the Work in Finland International Recruitment Advice Service for Employers. She has previously worked as International Recruitment Adviser for employers and job seekers at the Public Employment Service (TE-office).
