The Greenwashing Directive and the Future of Sustainability Communications

27.11.2026 08:30

webinar

The EU’s so-called Greenwashing Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/825, Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition), which entered into force in September, significantly changes how companies can communicate about their products and services.

The Directive aims to protect consumers from greenwashing and make environmental and sustainability information more reliable, helping consumers make more informed purchasing decisions. Among other things, it prohibits generic and unsubstantiated environmental claims such as “environmentally friendly” and “green”, unless there is reliable evidence to support them. It also restricts the use of self-created sustainability labels. Unsupported claims concerning areas such as human rights are also prohibited.

In this webinar, we will explore the key requirements of the Directive, look at examples of permitted and prohibited sustainability claims, and discuss the practical implications for organisations. We will also consider how to communicate about sustainability in a way that is legally compliant, useful to stakeholders and engaging.
